A Pat for ON20 Restaurant, Hartford, CT

Today was a really special occasion. A friend is retiring and she had a special wish to go to ON20 in downtown Hartford for lunch. I am definitely not a food writer, so other than extraordinary, elegant, and excellent, I am out of adjectives. The service was superb and not invasive, as it can be in some places. The restaurant itself is beautifully appointed, and the piano in the background was also enjoyable and not loud enough to interfere with conversations. I would absolutely recommend the ON20 for any special occasion and as a treat for a special person.

Why Blog?

The stars are right today. I’m a Sagittarian, and today my horoscope just happened to say that I should “change the world by spreading information or discussing progressive ideas.” (It also mentioned that a friendly face might offer more than a brief amorous interlude.) However, it’s almost 3 pm and that hasn’t happened, so here I sit. I have been blogging on the telephone to my daughter every day for some months now (or years, depending on your point of view) and the idea really came from talking with her. It seemed like someone or something bugged me enough every day to need to get it off my chest and she kept telling me: “Mom, you really need to get a blog!” Finally, the light came on and I realized that not only was it a good idea, but she wouldn’t be obliged to listen to my ramblings day in and day out.
Now that I am retired, I most enjoy spending time with my grandchildren. I seem to have opinions and information on a lot of subjects, many of which I (try to) keep to myself. But, at 69 years of age, there are many things to share about life and living and not much time left to do it. It’s kind of like when you’re sending your son or daughter off to college and you think of a million things you never told them that they’ll need to know. Either that, or it’s the feeling you have when a parent or grandparent dies, and you think of a million things you should have thought to ask them about. If the next 12 or 15 years go as quickly as January has gone, it will be like a roller-coaster ride. I don’t want to get off yet, but it’s going downhill faster and faster. Maybe if you’re too busy with life to listen now, the answers may lie here when you need them?
